Ingredients

  • 2 bunch Asparagus
  • 1 teaspoon salt and pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or oil spray
  • 1/3 cup parmesan cheese freshly grated
  • 1 lemon sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon chilli flakes Optional

Instructions

  1. The first step is to trim your asparagus. To do so, take one piece of the asparagus and hold it on both ends. One hand beneath the tip and the other hand at the end. Snap the asparagus and it will show you the point where it should be cut off.

  2. Now take that one snapped asparagus and place it with the bunch, and trim the rest at that same point.

  3. Air fry the asparagus at 400 degrees for 6-9 minutes. The timing will depend on the thickness of your asparagus.

  4. It should be crisp on the outside, yet al dente cooked on the inside with a green color on the skin.

  5. Plate the asparagus on a wooden plate and grate some fresh parmesan on top, add lemon slices and chilli flakes if you'd like.

Pro Tips for Air Fryer Asparagus

  1. This recipe is wonderful with seasonal fresh asparagus, so make the most of it while in season. 
  2. Prepare your asparagus by snapping one first, and then trimming the rest to that snapped one. Avoid trimming them without knowing where the best spot to trim is.
  3. Season the asparagus very simply with salt and pepper, some olive oil or avocado oil to air fry it. You can flavor it once cooked endlessly. Variations below.
  4. We love basket air fryers compared to toaster oven air fryers, but use your favorite one.
  5. Avoid over crowding the air fryer basket. You don’t necessarily need the asparagus to be in a single layer, so some overlapping is ok. 
  6. Observe the cooking time based on the thickness of your asparagus and the power level of your air fryer. On average a 400 degrees F air fryer will need 6-9 minutes to cook asparagus depending on the thickness of the asparagus. 

Cooking Time Guide

  • Thin Asparagus: 6–7 minutes at 375°F
  • Medium spears: 7–8 minutes
  • Thick spears: 8–10 minutes
  • Frozen asparagus: Not recommended because texture becomes watery.

  • Garlic Parmesan Air Fryer Asparagus: Add fresh garlic during last 3 minutes. Finish with parmesan, or drizzle with our Garlic Parmesan Sauce.
  • Lemon Asparagus: Finish with lemon zest and fresh juice, perfect with Truffle Aioli
  • Bacon Wrapped Asparagus:  Wrap thin bacon around bundles. Increase cook time to 10–12 minutes.
  • Keto Air Fryer Asparagus: Top with butter and grated cheese.
  • Spicy Asparagus: Add red pepper flakes or smoked paprika or Chili Oil Recipe or Hot Honey Recipe.
  • Air Fryer Asparagus with Balsamic Glaze: Drizzle glaze after cooking only.
  • Asian Inspired: Finish with sesame oil and toasted sesame seeds, serve with Satay Sauce.

Storage & Reheating

  • Store: in an airtight container up to 3 days in refrigerator
  • Reheat: Air fryer 350°F for 2–3 minutes
  • Avoid microwave (causes sogginess)
  • Not ideal for freezing.

To prepare this recipe ahead of time, you can make this recipe up to 3 days in advance, store in the fridge, reheat as above and serve with grated parmesan.
