Recipe Notes

Pro Tips For Whipped Feta

  1. Start with your favorite type of feta cheese. Crumbled feta or creamy works well. Goat or cow or a combo also works!
  2. Always use room-temperature feta as cold cheese blends poorly
  3. Greek yogurt is used in the recipe to add the creamy to the feta crumbles. Feel free to use sour cream, regular yogurt or even cream cheese for an extra layer of creamy. Ricotta also adds a unique texture.
  4. Seasoning and flavoring such as garlic, honey, lemon juice, spice, herbs are all up to your taste.
  5. Don't over salt, because feta cheese is salty enough. If it tastes too salty, add more yogurt to balance it out.
  6. Always remember you need to scrape the bowl of the food processor as you go.
  7. The topping is an extra layer of flavor and texture to the whipped feta so I urge you to add it!
  8. Serve right away with homemade pita chips and veggies, and fruits
  9. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for upto 5 days
  10. Check out the section above on how to use whipped feta other than in a dip.
  11. For ultra smooth texture, blend 2–3 minutes. For rustic texture, stop earlier

What It Should Taste Like

  • Salty but balanced
  • Tangy
  • Creamy
  • Bright

Whipped Feta Variations

  • Whipped Feta with Honey: Add drizzle of honey, perfect for hot honey crostini.
  • Whipped Feta with Roasted Red Peppers: Blend in roasted peppers for a sweet and smoky taste.
  • Spicy Whipped Feta: Add chili flakes or Harissa Vinaigrette, or Chili Oil Recipe.
  • Whipped Feta Without Yogurt: Use olive oil only to balance texture for a stronger feta flavor.
  • Whipped Feta with Cream Cheese: Milder, American style version, tastes less authentic.
  • Vegan Whipped Feta: Use plant based feta substitute, it tastes great but texture will differ.

How long can you store whipped feta?

You can store the whipped in an air tight container anywhere between 3-5 days. This will depends on additions you may have added to the dip which sometimes cause it to go bad sooner. If using my recipe below, then 5 days.

Why Is My Whipped Feta Gritty?

  • Feta too cold
  • Not blended long enough
  • Low quality feta
  • To fix this:  Blend longer and wait until the cheese is room temp.

Why Is It Too Salty?

  • You used pre crumbled feta
  • The brine wasn't drained well
  • Too much added extra salt
  • To fix this: Blend in more yogurt or a splash of cream.

Why Is It Runny?

  • Too much yogurt was added
  • Too much lemon added
  • The mixture was Over processed
  • To fix this: Add more feta and re blend.

Why Did It Separate?

  • Too much oil was added
  • Overmixed or over heated in the food processor
  • To fix this: Chill and re blend briefly.
